She has been instrumental in introducing a number of key patient-focussed initiatives, including the introduction of the Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) and the Patient’s Panel, both of which have made significant improvements to the lives of patients visiting the three hospitals within the Trust.

Lesley said: “I’m extremely humbled that I have been nominated for such prestigious recognition. I love my job and the people I work with; they are all truly committed to improving the experience for patients, visitors and carers.  It was really gratifying recently to see all that hard work recognised in the results of our national inpatient and outpatient surveys.”
Trust Director of Nursing Natalie Forrest said: “We are absolutely delighted that Lesley has been honoured with an MBE. She works extremely hard and is a respected and invaluable member of the Trust.  Lesley is passionate about everything concerning patients, and in particular to ensuring that equality, diversity, inclusion and human rights are central to the way we as a Trust deliver healthcare services to our patients”.

“Lesley is a constant reminder to everyone who works for the Trust that patients, visitors and carers are everyone’s number one priority. Her one aim is to ensure every single patient gets the positive experience they expect and deserve.”

Notes to Editor:

  • Anyone can be nominated for an honour, but only exceptional people receive one. People from across the United Kingdom receive honours in recognition of outstanding achievement and service to society.
  • This year almost three quarters of awards are for people who are actively engaged in charitable or voluntary work within their local community.
  • A total of 1,201 people have been recommended to the Queen for an award. 498 are women and 6 per cent come from ethnic minority communities.
