For GP assistance outside of regular surgery hours (Monday to Friday from 6.30pm to 8.00am, all weekend and on bank holidays)

If you are registered with a GP in Hertfordshire please call

03000 33 33 33

Experienced staff will answer your call, take some very basic details about you and your medical condition then a doctor or nurse will talk to you and assess your health needs over the phone. You will then either:

  • Be given healthcare advice over the phone
  • Be asked to attend your nearest primary care centre
  • Receive a home visit from a doctor or nurse.

If you would like more information about the GP out of hours service then please speak to your practice manager or reception staff at your surgery.

  • Normal GP surgery hours are 8.00am to 6.30pm – Monday to Friday
  • Patients ringing their GP surgery outside normal surgery hours will be redirected to the out of hours service.
  • For 24 hour health advice ring NHS Direct on 0845 46 47
  • In a medical emergency dial 999 and ask for an ambulance

In Hertfordshire, GP out of hours services are provided by Herts Urgent Care, a community benefit society that has no shareholders and operates strictly on a not-for-dividend basis where any surpluses are re-invested in the service.
